Students examine technology and engineering fundamentals in relation to solving real-world problems. Students investigate engineering history, including major engineering achievements, and they examine the principle engineering specialty fields and their related careers. Students practice engineering fundamentals, using mathematical and scientific concepts, and they apply the engineering design process through participation in hands-on engineering projects. Students will participate in STEM-based, hands-on projects as they communicate project-related information through team-based presentations, proposals, and technical reports.


Course titles in the engineering program include: Computer Aided Design, Introduction to Engineering, Robotics, Problem Solving


Occupations: Career options may include: engineer, engineering technician or related field



Typical Salary in Virginia: $43,340 -$132,280  depending on education level and specialization.


Employment Outlook: Employment of engineering occupations is projected to grow 7 percent from 2016 to 2026. About 194,300 new jobs are projected to be added. Engineering services will be in demand in various areas such as rebuilding of infrastructure, renewable energy, oil and gas extraction, and robotics.


Certification and/or Dual Enrollment Option: Possible certifications include: Workplace Readiness Skills, Manufacturing Specialist, Manufacturing Technician Level 1


Some courses in the engineering program qualify for dual enrollment credit through Virginia Western Community College.
